For Phase 2 of the project (BEST - P167569), in addition to the electricity access component "Electrification", another component is a battery energy storage technology "Batteries" envisaged where needed to improve the stability of the WAPP electricity system. Therefore, this phase 2 has been named the Regional Electricity Access and Battery Energy Storage Technology (BEST) project. The selected countries are Côte d'Ivoire and Mali for the "Batteries" component only, Niger for the "Electrification" and "Batteries" components, Mauritania, Togo and Senegal for the "Electrification" component only. The development objective of the project is to increase access to the power grid in Mauritania, Niger, Togo and Senegal, through about 6000Km of HV, MV and LV lines and to strengthen the capacity of the power system to ensure synchronous operation of the ECOWAS power system through the installation of energy storage systems (210 MW) in Côte d'Ivoire, Mali and Niger Mission:ASF Consulting has mobilized Mrs. Awatef Siala Fourati to held the position of Senior Environmental Expert within the Regional Coordination Unit of ECOWAS.
